OPUS - Manufactures of Handmade Carpets and Rugs was established in 1993 by Mr. Mahmood Alam Ansari for the purpose of manufacturing carpets and exporting of Handmade Carpets, which is our ancestral work for the last five decades.

We are committed to preserve and uphold the age old traditions and heritage of handcrafted carpets that showcases the intricate skills of the local craftsmen. Our carpets are very well accepted in the overseas markets and are renowned worldwide for an admirable and immaculate collection of designs, which are available in attractive colors, elusive elegance, and speak volume of our great workmanship.

We take utmost care in maintaining the high quality of our products and pay close attention to every detail related to manufacturing to ensure that the customers are always fully satisfied. Our quality systems comply with the international standard ISO 9001: 2015, OHSAS AND SEDEX. The entire manufacturing process comprising of designing, dyeing, screen printing and weaving are undertaken in-house with no scope of outsourcing. The designs are developed by our in-house designers but we also welcome your ideas to be converted into attractive design.

OUR HISTORY

Our family has been engaged in Carpet Weaving since more than a Century.

More than 200 Years ago Persian Nomads were crossing our city Bhadohi and made it as their temporary settlement. Persian men & women used to weave Carpets in their Tents, which they taught to the Ansari community people living there and from here on, Carpet Weaving spread across India. While Bhadohi remaining the carpet weaving center of India with more than 70% Carpets being exported all over the world from Bhadohi.

First Carpet Exporting Company in our family was established in 1933 by Usman Ghani, grand-father of Mahmood Alam Ansari, Executive Director of Opus.

In 1940, sons of Usman Ghani, Abdul Qayyum & Mohammed Ayub took over the reins of the Company from Usman Ghani.

Father of Mahmood Alam Ansari, Mohammed Ayub Ansari with co-operation of his friend Mr. Kos from Sweden, thought to device a way where they could modify Blanket technique to make Flat Woven Rugs, called Durries. Mr. Kos & Mr. Mohammmed Ayub devised Looms at their own premises in Bhadohi town and got blanket weavers from Mirzapur to weave durries.

Mahmood Alam Ansari alongside with his wife, Afshan Ansari established OPUS in 1992 and revolutionized the concept of durries deriving inspiration from Textile Designs.
